Mother's Day Rose Cupcakes

Mother's Day is one of my favorite days of the year.  My kids are always so sweet for the entire day.  They make me breakfast and we hike the same trail every year.  It's our tradition and it is exactly what I always want on Mother's Day.  This cupcake rose bouquet makes a darling centerpiece and dessert.  Want to deliver one to your mom?

To pipe the roses, use a large star tip and start in the center of the cupcake and pipe in a circle working around to the outside edge.  To add variegated edges to the roses, use a little food coloring on the end of a brush and lightly brush the edges (or petals).
For the bouquet, take a small pot and place Styrofoam on the bottom of the pot.  Cover the Styrofoam with fake grass.
Place wooden skewers to hold the cupcakes.  It is easiest to freeze the cupcakes once they are decorated and then place the cupcakes while frozen.
A dozen pretty roses for Mom.  My mom is away this weekend with my sister.  The backdrop is the quilt she gave me last year for Mother's Day.  The leaves are silk leaves.
If you still prefer the non-edible flowers, here are the Mother's Day flowers I designed for the sold-out brunch buffet at my work. There was one more bouquet for the ladies restroom.  I haven't done retail flowers for 9 years, but it's funny how fast I can total the flowers in my head to price out an arrangement.  The guys at work wanted to sell the arrangements.  Hopefully the flowers will still be there Monday morning and end up at my desk.
It has only happened one other time...that my kids aren't with me on Mother's Day.  When people have asked what my plans are this year, I have been met with a mix of "Awwww, that's too bad" and "You're so lucky!  A day all to yourself!"  Not sure if I'll go hike.  I guess it will be weather depending.  We are on a Winter weather advisory this weekend.  So much for trying out my new Mother's Day SUP board!  I did get to see the kids today at my son's ballgames.  Both kids ran up and gave me cards after the game.
My daughter's handwritten card:
Super Mom
When you taught me how to bake, you showed your super heart.
When you help me with school, you show me you're super smart.
When you make cakes, they're super delish.
Swimming is the best sport and you're super good at it!
When you smile, you're super pretty.
You're very funny all the time.
You always make me laugh!
That's why you're Super Mom.

These cupcakes are pretty sweet, but not near as sweet as the two young souls I am raising.
Happy Mother's Day to all of the wonderful Mothers out there.
