Apple Vase Flower Arrangement
I wish I would have thought of this flower arrangement a week ago at the start of Teacher Appreciation Week. These dozen apple centerpieces are for the Spring Into Health: Healthy Living & Wellness Expo, a local event spearheaded by my amazing aunt. She let me know she'd be dropping off a box of apples and asked how I could use them...
I bought some bright Springy flowers from the grocery store- alstromeria, mums & carnations. I wouldn't usually use carnations, but the stiff stems wors really well with floral foam and the bright pink really popped with the bright green from the apples. Start by coring out the apples. I used a melon baller and hollowed out a large enough space to fit the floral foam and extra water.
The insides will brown a bit, but you won't see it once the flowers are placed. I cored one apple out the night prior and it was still firm enough to use the following morning. It took about 20 minutes to core the apples.
Once the apples are cored, place a small piece of soaked floral foam in the center and fill the apple with water.

The button mums are perfect to conceal the rim of the apple and any exposed floral foam:
The apples were donated, so the total for the 12 centerpieces came to $30.50.
I remember back around Thanksgiving, my uncle asked my aunt if she is living her dream and she smiled and said this Wellness Expo is her dream. I am so proud of her for taking her dream, pulling it all together and making it a reality!
